As a housing provider, Atira emphasizes the need for robust support systems, including:
- Increased income-assistance shelter rates and homelessness prevention funds
- Rapid rehousing programs for women, youth, and gender-diverse individuals fleeing violence
- Safe spaces tailored to the specific needs of marginalized communities, including 2STGD people
- Increased specialized transition housing options and a more coordinated approach to housing services
- Expanded support services, such as rental assistance, moving supports, wraparound services, and employment programs
None of these supports should be contingent on immigration status.
A core principle guiding our work is the belief in every woman’s right to self-determination.
At Atira, we walk alongside women — respecting their choices and offering support rooted in compassion, inclusion, and understanding.
Through education, advocacy, and access to women-centred support, it is our hope that women feel less alone in their journey. Our thoughtful and inclusive approach has made Atira a trusted resource for women and children in need. We are proud to be an organization that doesn’t just check boxes, but listens deeply to the voices of those we serve — recognizing that every woman’s path is shaped by her own unique experiences.
Gender-based violence is complex, and so are the ways Atira responds. Whether it’s providing safe housing, facilitating healing programs, or advocating for systemic change, we remain committed to helping women and children access the tools, resources, and support they need to heal, rebuild, and move forward on their own terms.
