News: Sereena’s fire update
Women will start moving home tonight! Thank you to PPD, Troy Life & Fire Safety Ltd., BioSweep, Genesis Security Group, the Vancouver Fire Department, City of Vancouver, BC Housing and all of the people who made this possible, including Sarah, Arita, Emily, Meghann, Kadidja, Nicole and all of the Sereena’s/Atira staff.
There are four rooms damaged by water from the sprinkler activation that will take an additional two weeks to repair, and four rooms specifically damaged by the fire that will take an additional 12 weeks to repair. Those women are all temporarily sheltered until their rooms are ready to re-occupy.
We understand there are rumours circulating in the community that this and other fires were purposefully set. There is absolutely nothing to indicate this fire at Sereena’s was purposeful and to engage in rumours and speculation puts the woman in whose room the fire started at risk. Please don’t.
