5.1     Course Goals & Objectives

Goal

The overall goal of this module is for nurses and allied health care professionals to gain a deeper understanding of how models of women-centred care and harm reduction can improve women’s safety and health and reduce the risks that women face, as well as begin to reflect upon how to incorporate these principles in their own health settings.

Objectives

After completing this module, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand and describe the key principles of women-centred care and harm reduction.
  2. Describe the relationship between women-centred care and harm reduction and how it differs from routine health care practices.
  3. Understand how to shift from routine practices to more supportive health care practices based on the principles of harm reduction and women-centred care.
  4. Describe how an integrated model of women-centred care and harm reduction can empower women and support their health and safety.
  5. Identify how to work with other systems to support women and their children.
