4.1     Course Goals & Objectives

Goal

The overall goal of this module is for nurses and allied health care professionals to gain a deeper understanding of the unique challenges facing a woman who is pregnant or has a baby/young child and is struggling with substance use and/or violence/abuse in her relationship.

Objectives

After completing this module, the student will be able to:

1. Understand and describe the dynamics of parenting under duress from women’s experience.
2. Differentiate between stereotypes and evidence regarding the impacts of various risk factors on women, infants and children
3. Understand some of the barriers women may face in accessing treatment or health care.
