2.1     Course Goals & Objectives

Goal

The overall goal of this module is for nurses and allied health care professionals to gain a deeper understanding of how living in an abusive relationship can impact a woman's health and health care.

Objectives

After completing this module, the student will be able to:

1. Understand and describe the dynamics of abuse from women's experience and men's intentions
2. Understand the health impacts of violence against women in relationships.
3. Describe the relationship between violence against women, women's health and access to health care
4. Describe how routine health care practices can echo women's experiences of abuse.
5. Identify how other systems can re-victimize women and cause further trauma
