Janice Abbott, CEO of Atira, is a finalist of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 Pacific (British Columbia).

"Ernst & Young is one of the largest professional services firms in the world and one of the Big Four auditors." (Wikipedia). The company is a global organization present in 140 countries and ranked the tenth largest private company by Forbes Magazine.

Janice will be present at the awards gala this fall, when the announcement of the Pacific region Entrepreneur of the Year will be made. As the CEO of Atira Women’s Resource Society, Atira Property Management and The Painter Sisters we are proud her contribution to our communities is being recognized.

Like any award, most of the honour comes solely from being nominated and always invokes a sense of pride.

Janice said of the honour, "the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 award is a prestigious and celebrated award and I am thrilled and honoured to have been nominated and shortlisted for the social enterprise category, along with the many amazing entrepreneurs who have also been short listed; just absolutely thrilled."

Thank You for everyone who attended the BBQ at Atira's Commmunity Garden!

We'd like to give a big thank you to everyone that came to the neighbourhood BBQ at the Atira Community Garden on June 24th! Residents, staff and Strathcona community members alike came together for a fun afternoon of eating and mingling.

This amazing garden would not have been possible without the very generous time and efforts of Mount Cheam Secondary School, CDC Construction, Eco Soil, West Coast Seeds, Stellar Seeds, Projects in Place, Ukraine Hall and Vancouver Public Spaces. We would also like to thank the Strathcona Community Center for sponsoring our park bench and memorial plaque.

Much appreciation is also extended to the Vancouver Police Department, specifically Laura, Linda, West and Aaron for tending the grill. To everyone that has, in one way or another, lent a helping hand, thank you for making the BBQ and community garden a success!
