Community Garden & Kitchens
Our community garden is located in Strathcona at Rice Block Housing for Women and is a place where women can come together to share, learn and connect with each other and the community. It will provide Rice Block residents, as well as the local community, with the opportunity to grow food for themselves and for the on-site community meal program. It is also planned to include herbs, flowers, medicinal plants and native plant species in the garden.
The garden is located to the south of the Rice Block building on Hawks Ave in Strathcona. We invite and encourage members of the local community to become involved. Interested in being involved in this exciting project or learning more?

A social & supportive setting in which women prepare enough nutritious food for each participant to take home two-three meals for her family. With the support of a coordinator the women have planning meetings where they discuss:
- Bulk buying groceries
- Preparing recipes
- Childcare arrangement
- Sharing of the food/expenses
The Kitchen operates three times a month & each session runs for about three hours. Participants contribute either $2.50 per session or ingredients of equal value to help offset the grocery budget. The Kitchen is also open to the surrounding community and we encourage women in the neighborhood to participate.
